The application can be submitted online through the ECI Voters’ Services Portal or through the appropriate Electoral Registration Officer (ERO)/Booth Level Officer (BLO).

This guide explains Form 6 eligibility, documents required, online application procedure, offline procedure, age rules, Aadhaar details, address proof, verification, application status and common mistakes.

Form 6 vs Form 8

Many applicants use the wrong form. Remember this simple difference:

Requirement Correct Form
New voter registration Form 6
Change address after already being a voter Form 8
Correction in existing voter record Form 8
Replacement of EPIC Form 8
Marking PwD Form 8
Delete/raise objection to electoral-roll entry Form 7
NRI/Overseas voter registration Form 6A

Common Mistakes While Filling Form 6

Avoid these mistakes:

1. Spelling mistakes

Enter your name carefully in both English and the applicable official language.

The ECI warns that if the name is entered in only one language, software transliteration may result in spelling mistakes.

2. Wrong date of birth

Make sure your DOB matches your supporting document.

3. Incorrect address

Enter the address where you ordinarily reside.

4. Duplicate registration

Do not submit Form 6 if your name is already registered elsewhere.

5. Poor photograph

Use a recent, clear photograph meeting the Form 6 specifications.

6. Incorrect documents

Upload clear and valid supporting documents.

7. False declaration

Never provide false information. The declaration carries legal consequences under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Important Points for Maharashtra Voters

For applicants living in Maharashtra, Form 6 is the same ECI new-voter registration form used for inclusion in the electoral roll.

Applicants should select/provide the appropriate Maharashtra constituency and residential details while applying.

For Maharashtra-specific assistance, applicants can also use the Election Commission’s voter services and the relevant Chief Electoral Officer/election authorities.

Do not use Form 6 to change the address of an existing voter. For an existing elector who has shifted residence, Form 8 is the appropriate form.
